Smithsonian Gardens Soil Management Plan

The Soils Management Plan provides an assessment of the overall health of the soils across Smithsonian Gardens and outlines a sustainable approach to future soils installations, streamlining existing maintenance practices and improving poorly performing soils.  This plan includes comprehensive historic analysis, soil sampling and testing, plant health observations and staff interviews to identify and prioritize soil remediation areas. Additional deliverables include standardized planting soil and tree preservation details and specifications as a resource for Smithsonian Gardens staff, designers, and contractors. This project received Federal support from the Smithsonian Collections Care Initiative, administered by the National Collections Program.
