Liberty Hall
Capitalizing on the multitude of natural features and mountain views was the starting point for the master plan of this rolling 175 acre site in Albemarle County. A series of terraced gardens create places for gathering and prospect and gently navigate the circulation from the house to several outbuildings. The preservation of several 100 + year old trees was critical to the landscape design, contributing both scale and shade to the newly constructed house. Mown and paved paths connect to an extensive mountain bike trail network, which travels from the ridgetop, through acres of forest, down to the restored streambed. Fields for sheep grazing and a solar field meadow establish a connection between the agricultural history of this land, and a sustainable future for it.
