Wolf Josey is working with the William King Museum of Art (WKMA) to transform its 20-acre campus into a community park that celebrates the intersection of art and nature. Located in Abingdon, Virginia, WKMA’s permanent collection celebrates the rich tapestry of regional creative culture and nurtures emerging artists through visionary programming.

In 2019, the William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, Virginia received a transformative gift of paintings and sculpture collected by Gene and Anne Worrell, and a new gallery and landscape to host the collection. The collection’s focus on wildlife complements the museum’s mission to cultivate environmental respect through artistic expression.

Wolf Josey, working alongside Schulhof Rashidi Architects, is re-envisioning the WKMA museum precinct to integrate the new gallery building and develop a sculpture garden in which visitors can engage with Worrell collection. This transformation presented the opportunity to revise the site’s circulation, improve accessibility, and create inviting spaces that support the museum’s innovative educational initiatives.
