Blue Ridge School Master Plan

The Blue Ridge School was founded in 1909 as a vocational school, and quickly became nationally recognized for its education excellence as the all-boys boarding school it is today.  Informed by comprehensive surveys involving students, faculty, alumni, and the board, alongside nine months of dedicated leadership and board engagement, the plan envisions a landscape that not only meets the evolving needs of academia, but also captivates the next generation of learners and educators.

The Master Plan approach was multi-faceted. It examined the school at many levels from aesthetics and function to maintenance and cost. The resulting plan offered a flexible and measurable design vision that outlined both modest and substantial projects that could be realized incrementally or independently as budgets allowed. The Master Plan aspires to create connections to the school’s magnificent Blue Ridge Mountain surroundings in all aspects of student and faculty life, developing design strategies to open up the campus to the broader landscape and to create outdoor gathering spaces within the central campus.
