Chatham Hall Wellness Center
Immediately following the completion of the Master Plan prepared by Wolf Josey, Chatham Hall initiated the first step of a design and fundraising process to replace its existing gym with a new Health and Wellness Center. In January 2020, Wolf Josey and VMDO Architects began the three-month schematic design phase to envision an accessible, flexible, multi-use building and landscape that will promote holistic wellness in the everyday life of students and staff; encourage collaboration between faculty, staff, and students; and create places for community-building, gathering, and play. Through close collaboration with the Chatham Hall Master Planning Committee and the Health and Wellness Task Force, Wolf Josey prepared a landscape design that focused on creating spaces for rest and recharging, informal gathering, and outdoor instruction. A large level lawn provides necessary space for fitness, yoga, and group events. These new spaces are integrated into the existing campus with accessible and unified circulation routes and views overlooking the historic Curtis Jackson Courtyard at the core of campus.
