Lauren Boyd, Project Designer
Lauren received her Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia in 2017, after a series of varied career paths that included teaching middle school science to running a friend’s small business. Lauren grew up on her grandparents’ small organic farm in the Midwest, forging her first deep connection to land and place, and when she discovered landscape architecture as a profession, it was like a dream job.
Prior to joining Wolf Josey in Charlottesville, Lauren worked in Charleston, SC for DesignWorks, LC and REMARK Studio on a variety of residential and commercial projects. She was also a member of the Design Review Committee for the Nexton planned community in Summerville, SC.
Her passion in landscape architecture is seeing spaces we would consider human-dominated and heavily cultural also be filled with biodiversity, but she also loves the satisfaction of figuring out a complex grading puzzle, and finds drafting in CAD relaxing. Her graduate thesis work looked at the intersection of landscape architecture, art, and ecology, exploring the idea of mutually beneficial interspecies habitation through artful design of habitat in proximity to urban areas, so that regional wildlife and their life cycles are celebrated, highlighted, and even framed for the considerate viewer. In her free time, Lauren enjoys hiking and identifying the various forbs she comes across, and gardening at her home.
