MONTE VISTA FARM
Stanardsville, VA
A live-work barn surrounded by native plantings
Situated on 700 acres of land with spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the barn at Monte Vista Farm is a live-work environment. The project began with a master plan for the barn complex where a more functional living environment was desired, but the practical needs of a cattle operation had to be met. The plan establishes a clear precinct around the barn, anchored by an entrance court defined by large beds of native grasses and hedges, with allees and pathways organizing movement. A native perennial garden frames long views toward the mountains, complemented by an orchard and berry garden. Phase 2 of the project includes extensive meadows and reforestation areas.
