A 19th-century cottage and an old dairy barn were the starting points for the re-envisioning of a 200+ acre property in Rockbridge County Virginia. Two modern additions and a series of gardens and terraces connect the structures and embrace the distant landscape. A circuit walk winds through a series of working landscapes and destinations including an orchard, meadow, vineyard, hilltop, and pond. Locally harvested fieldstone and boulders used throughout the project reveal the site geology and define the edges of the house precinct.
