DISTRICT WHARF

Phase II | Washington, DC

Phase II of the District Wharf waterfront development involves the creative planning and design of the open space to complete the final phase of this mile long stretch along the Washington Channel. This includes designing the Grove plaza along the waterfront promenade and Events Garden. Situated among retail, bars, and restaurants, the Grove Plaza brings tree canopy to the urban center, offering a shady place to gather beneath the American Elms.

Marina Way, a two block retail street, Maine Avenue, and the connective mews between buildings are all designed with the pedestrian experience in mind, using contiguous paving to make space more easily shared by cars and people, while reconnecting visitors and residents to the vital ecological margin of the Potomac River waterfront.
